Project Overview

The web app development project for Words First aims to enhance the capabilities of speech and language therapists by providing innovative tools and resources that streamline the assessment and reporting processes. This initiative focuses on developing a user-friendly platform that integrates various functionalities, enabling therapists to efficiently manage client information, generate reports, and collaborate with colleagues. By leveraging technology, Words First seeks to maximize the potential of therapists and improve outcomes for their clients, ultimately fostering a more effective therapeutic environment.

My Role

I played a pivotal role in driving the development of innovative tools and resources for speech and language therapists. My responsibilities encompassed various aspects, including UX design, client brief development, and concept translation to designers and developers. By serving as a bridge between the client and the design and development teams, I ensured that the project aligned with the client's vision and requirements. As a UX designer, I focused on creating user-centered interfaces that enhance the overall experience for therapists. I collaborated closely with stakeholders to gather insights, identify pain points, and translate their needs into effective design solutions. Additionally, my team lead capabilities allowed me to guide and coordinate efforts among team members, fostering a collaborative environment. By leading regular meetings and providing feedback, I helped maintain focus and drive progress, ultimately contributing to the successful execution of the project.

The Goal

The main objective of the Words First project was to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of speech and language therapists by simplifying documentation processes with smart templates and automated data entry.

Challenge

Therapists often faced difficulties in creating reports due to the complexity of inputting data from multiple assessments. The existing tool required them to navigate through numerous forms, leading to frustration and inefficiency.

Our Solution

We designed a flexible reporting framework tailored to the specific needs of Words First therapists. This framework allowed them to create custom report templates that could be adjusted based on different assessment types and client needs. Additionally, we introduced a library of standardized report elements and assessment tools that therapists could easily import and customize, ensuring that all reports maintained compliance while reflecting individual client requirements.Key features included:

Smart Templates: Introduced customizable report templates that adapt to various assessment types, allowing therapists to quickly generate reports tailored to specific client needs.
Automated Data Entry: Implemented auto-fill capabilities to streamline data input, ensuring that frequently used information (like client demographics) is populated automatically.
Real-Time Collaboration: Enabled multiple therapists to collaborate on reports simultaneously, facilitating feedback and input from colleagues directly within the document.
Integrated Assessment Tools: Allowed therapists to access and incorporate assessment results directly into reports, reducing manual data entry and potential errors.

Results

The new design resulted in a 50% reduction in time spent on report creation. Therapists reported feeling more efficient and were able to generate reports more quickly, leading to increased productivity . Furthermore, there was a 25% reduction in report errors related to non-compliance, enhancing the overall quality of documentation and increasing confidence in the reporting process.
